Interview with the Client, DMC

8:30 in the morning, I and Leizl went to the Davao Medical Center to interview our client. We already gathered data regarding the Blood Transfusion Service in the DMC but we need some more clarifications like what are the problems they have encountered.

During the interview, we found out that they also have to monitor their income. It is not only that they are concern with the crossmatched and uncrossmatched blood but they are also after of their income in that way they can say that they have been working efficiently. There are only 8 Medical Technologists in Blood Transfusion Service and i can say that the man power is quite lacking considering they are catering different people, 24 hours a day. They only have two clerks, who are only available in weekdays but not during night time so the Medical Technologists would do the task in the receiving area.

Their job is very tedious because they are maintaing a lot of records from different department in the Davao Blood Center plus those other health agencies who sends blood to them by bulk like in Red Cross.

We were having a hard time understanding some medical terminologies they have mentioned.

* Time to continue for the documentation for our Thesis and Leizl will be answering our Case Studies. After that, we will be exchanging our ideas.

Gathering of Data, DMC

Since Leizl’s Mom is working as a Medical Technologist in Davao Medical Center she is the one who always do the follow-ups for our client like in setting for an appointment. This time around, in the morning she texted me that i will be meeting with Lyra one of the staff in the Davao Blood Transfusion Service. She happens to be my former classmate while i was taking my Medical Technology course.

The scheduled appointment was before lunch time. She was so suprised upon seeing me. She introduced me to her interns. Everytime i see my former classmates working it always makes me kinda feel sad because i am still studying but anywayz its okay. Going back, she handed me the different papers regarding the Davao Blood Transfusion Service. I got them photocopied like the policies, flow charts, vision-mission, objectives and etc…

After that, i went to school to have our other proposal letters be signed. Thank God our dean was there! I also waited for my other groupmate to arrive before we will go to Leizl’s house so that we could continue doing our docu for the thesis.

Different Forms [data]

We scheduled for an appointment to the head of the Blood Bank Transfusion Service but when we arrived there she was not there so we waited for a while.

After waiting for about 15 mins, Leizl and I decided to why not went to the nearby pharmacy stores and ask for the managers if we could proposed a system to them. We went to Botika ng Bayan, unfortunately they just had their system being replaced months ago. She was very accomodating and even suggested to why not try those other pharmacy stores who still doesn’t have a system. We also went to the other pharmacy but same thing in our previous experiences in looking for possible companies they are not willing to invest in an automated system and the incharge is not around.

We went back to the DMC, since the head is still not around one of the staff entertained us. She explained to us the flow of activities they had from receiving the blood up to the recording and other matters. We were able to picture out that our scope is not actually small but a big one since we will be handling different records from different departments. It was a combination of record and inventory plus the Nurse station, Ward, Medtech department and other patient’s corner.

We got to talk to the clerk also and he is just kind. We stayed there for almost 2 hours with our stomach growling because we still have not taken our breakfast. We have met so many patients and we’re looking for the different forms they have issued.

Here are the names of the different papers(forms) we have gathered:

1. Blood Bank Monitoring Card

2. Rquest form for thawing of fresh frozen plasma bag, thawing of cryoprecipitate/cryosupermate and others

3. Blood Typing

4.Issuance of Transfusion Service ( with corresponding prices)

5. Compatibility Test Results

6. Blood Pool Withdrawal/Replacement Slip

7. Claim Stub

8. Request for Crossmatching

9. Waiver for Release of Uncrossmatched Blood

10. Blood Transfusion Form

11. Acknowledgement of Blood Deposit

12. Waiver of Blood Transfusion Service

We were so satisfied with the meeting. We learned so many things.
